Knowing Obesity
What is obesity? The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) broadly defines obesity as "a national epidemic and a major contributor to some of the leading causes of death in the U.S., including heart disease, stroke, diabetes and some types of cancer." The CDC went on to say that obesity is common, serious and costly. It is known that about a third of the United States adults are obese. This negatively impact productivity and its related high healthcare costs.
